Cruce Andino invites you to follow the route that more than 400 years ago the Huilliches, the natives of Southern Chile, used as a commercial route, and later the Jesuits of Chiloé used to found the missions in the Nahuel Huapi region. Now, after four centuries of history, we invite you to "Sail along the Andes Range" set in the zone of the Andean Lakes and Volcanes, an area that contains two important national parks: Nahuel Huapi in Argentina and Vicente Pérez Rosales on the Chilean side, two examples of how nature has preserved and will continue preserving this veritable paradise on earth.

This time, we invite to combine this journey with a visit to the extraordinary Perito Moreno Glacier, an unavoidable atraction of the Argentinean Patagonia.

We depart from El Calafate at 9 a.m. approximately. National Park “Los Glaciares” (The Glaciers) has been declared World Heritage by the UNESCO. The glaciers that gave it its name show us a 10 thousand-year-old world: cold and wild. The most famous one is Perito Moreno Glacier in the southwestern end of Argentino Lake at 80 km away from El Calafate. This glacier is named after a great Argentinian explorer from last century and is one of the few glaciers in the world that are still moving. That is why it has become one of the most spectacular natural shows in South America. From time to time its 60-meter-high front detaches some ice walls as huge as buildings that fall into Rico Branch or Canal de los Témpanos (Ice floes Channel) and then they keep on sailing along the channel to the main area of the lake. However, that is not all. The glacier, while moving forward, comes closer to the Magellan’s Peninsula, in the opposite lake bank as well as footbridge and viewpoint area. This cycle takes from 4 to 6 years and it eventually separates the lake into two areas. Rico Branch is dammed up and it increases about 35 m over its average level. The water slowly pierces its way through the glacier front until it makes it fall down. This show is breathtaking. Water becomes into huge waves so the whole process starts again.
The distance of the trip is 160 km, and we return approximately at 5 p.m. We suggest that you take a box lunch and a drink.
